Maisie Ball to Run Great Bristol Run in Memory of Father Lost to Brain Tumor

Running for a Cause

Maisie Ball will join the Great Bristol Run on 11 May to honor her father, Nick Ball, who passed away in August after a three-year fight against glioblastoma. Funds raised from her 10k race will support Brain Tumour Research, aiding treatment development and a cure.

A Father’s Sudden Diagnosis

Nick Ball, 47, faced sudden confusion after a routine run in August 2021 and was hospitalized following a seizure. A scan later revealed an incurable brain tumor, coinciding with Maisie’s 16th birthday. “My parents tried so hard to keep things normal for me—it’s unforgettable,” Maisie shared.

A Daughter’s Promise

Over three years, Nick underwent awake brain surgery, spinal procedures, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. Maisie described losing him as “heart-breaking,” adding, “I felt powerless watching him change so fast.” On her fundraising page, she wrote, “I promised Dad I’d never take my ability to move for granted. This 10k is my tribute.”

Raising Awareness and Funds

Louise Aubrey of Brain Tumour Research praised Maisie’s efforts: “Her participation boosts awareness and funding. Brain tumours have among the lowest survival rates of any cancer.”
